Homemade Window Cleaning Solutions

Yes, there are many different window cleaning products that you can purchase but if you use homemade window cleaner it is better for you and the environment. The ones that you can buy generally contain harsh chemicals and can be costly. Homemade ones can be made with supplies most households already have on hand, making the cost effective. One thing important to remember is when doing window cleaning you should not do it on a sunny day as the rays of the sun will dry the cleaning solution and leave behind water streaks or spots.

Soap solution
This is one of the cheapest and easiest homemade window cleaning solution to make. Just take four cups of cold water to which you add a tablespoon of liquid dishwater detergent. If you have hard water you may have to buy some distilled water because hard water can leave spots on the windows. Put the mixture in a clean spray bottle but before you start to wash your windows you should use a lint-free damp cloth to get rid of the dirt around the frame and window sill. If you do not have a spray bottle you can use a sponge dipped into the solution but make sure that you wring out the sponge so it is not dripping. Wipe the solution off with a dry microfiber cloth or squeegee. If you use a squeegee make sure that you wipe if off after each swipe at the window.

White vinegar
This is one window cleaning solution that you will want to use if you want your windows to be free of spots or streaks and shine. For this solution it is a mixture of one cup of white vinegar and four cups of water that is lukewarm. To get rid of fingerprints or dirty marks just put in a spray bottle and spray the area and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth. You can also use a soft sponge to wipe the windows. If you do not have a microfiber or lint free soft cloth you can use a crumpled newspaper.

Rubbing alcohol
This window cleaning solution is good for tough stains on the windows. For this solution you will also need some ammonia. In a cup of water add a cup of rubbing alcohol and a tablespoon of ammonia. Just spray it on the tough stain and gently rub until the stain is gone. After you get rid of the stain wipe with soft cloth.

Lemon juice
